Andrew Collins reviews Glastonbury in the NME 1989 (part 2)

Andrew Collins ‘loiters within tent’ – da dum – to review Glastonbury for the N.M.E. 1st July 1989.

Last week I posted an advertisement for 1989’s Glastonbury in reference to the upcoming 2008 event, so it only seems right to post a review of it this week.

So did you all enjoy Glastonbury 2008? At least it didn’t rain huh? Left the ads in because all the extra period detail is one of the nice things about these articles as scans.

Gawd bless you for putting this up. It was such a key commission for me as a writer, as I was still working in the design room at that time and only just moving into actual writing. They found out in a staff meeting that I had never been to Glastonbury before (or any festival) and that – gasp! – I’d already paid money for tickets! I was thus dispatched to be “a punter” for three days and write all about it. This is a commonplace in Glasto coverage at the time, but not in 1989. (Hard to believe that it wasn’t on telly or in the Guardian in those days.)
